چکیده

Recently, both Alcator C-Mod and DIII-D tokamaks observed fast anomalous cross-field plasma transport in the SOL. These observations supported by theoretical studies have indicated that such transport is essentially non-diffusive and intermittent. We present the results of macroscopic plasma simulations with the UEDGE transport code including anomalous cross-field outward-directed convection for a series of low-power DIII-D shots. Our analysis of experimental and simulation data supports the view that non-diffusive transport is important for the entire edge plasma behavior in both Land H-mode discharges. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Simulation of Power and Particle Flows in the NSTX Edge Plasma

We simulate edge plasmas in NSTX double-null divertor configurations with the UEDGE two-dimensional fluid code. The carbon impurity density in the core plasma and total radiated power increase with the core heating power and the magnitude of the physical and chemical sputtering in the divertor. Up/down plasma asymmetries are generated by classical cross-field particle drifts. With the standard ...

Coupled whole device simulations of plasma transport in tokamaks with the FACETS code

The FACETS project aims to provide computational tools for whole device simulation of tokamak transport for use in fusion applications. The framework provides flexibility by allowing users to choose the best model for a given physics target. Our goals are to develop accurate transport solvers using neoclassical and turbulent fluxes with varying degree of fidelity and computational complexity, i...

Simulation of electron thermal transport in H-mode discharges

Electron thermal transport in DIII-D H-mode tokamak plasmas ͓J. L. Luxon, Nucl. Fusion 42, 614 ͑2002͔͒ is investigated by comparing predictive simulation results for the evolution of electron temperature profiles with experimental data. The comparison includes the entire profile from the magnetic axis to the bottom of the pedestal. In the simulations, carried out using the automated system for tran...

Role of Transport and MHD Stability in Simulations of H-mode Pedestal Development in ELMy Plasmas

This study addresses the development of a scaling of the H-mode pedestal in tokamak plasmas with type I ELMs. In particular, the scaling studies carried out illustrate the dependence of the pedestal properties and the resulting divertor heat load width as a function of plasma elongation and plasma current. H-mode pedestal profiles for DIII-D and Alcator C-Mod tokamaks are considered: DIII-D for...

Diffusive-convective transition for scrape-off layer transport and the heat-flux width

Transport of plasma from the edge pedestal gradient region into the scrape-off layer (SOL) forms the heat exhaust channel. The properties of this channel are critical for future tokamak devices. The SOL heat-flux width is believed to be set by a competition between classical parallel transport and turbulent cross-field transport. In previous work, [Myra J R, et al. 2011 J. Nucl. Mat. 415 S605] ...
